USNC/IEC Spreads the Word about Global Electrotechnology Standardization via News and Notes

New York, Jul 11, 2008

One year following the re-launch of its quarterly e-newsletter News and Notes, the U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is broadening the publication’s distribution and encouraging its use as an information resource for the electrotechnology community.

Originally created for members and constituents of the USNC/IEC, News and Notes summarizes activities, events and items of interest for members of the USNC and Technical Advisory Groups to IEC technical committees and subcommittees. The publication debuted in January 2006 and was restructured in July 2007 to include additional articles, accentuated by graphics and formatting. It is now published in .pdf format and distributed via e-mail.

“The USNC volunteer leaders and management have been very pleased with the positive feedback News and Notes has received from our members and constituents,” said Rafael Lourenco, deputy general secretary for the USNC/IEC. “It’s an easy-to-read resource that keeps U.S. stakeholders informed about the latest standards and conformity assessment updates in the domestic, regional and global arenas. We’re happy to make the document available for use by others who need to stay up-to-date on USNC and IEC activities that will impact their business.”

A library of current and archived issues of News and Notes is freely available via the USNC webpage,

The most recent issue, Vol 3 – No 2 – July 2008, includes a feature article on IEC’s conformity assessment activities; previous issues have highlighted the consumer perspective on electrotechnical standardization; the need for IEC work in the area of ultra high voltage transmission systems; and a commemorative from the USNC/IEC president upon the 100th anniversary of the USNC. Each issue of News and Notes also includes a series of related articles, and a comprehensive calendar of upcoming events that are relevant to the Committee’s constituents.

Questions regarding content, or suggestions for future issues, should be directed to Rafael Lourenco, deputy general secretary for the USNC/IEC.
