People on the Move

2/03/2017

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.

ASTM International, a member and audited designator of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that ANSI board member Katharine Morgan has assumed the role of president of ASTM International, succeeding James A. Thomas.

To mark the occasion, ASTM has posted a video featuring Ms. Morgan delivering a brief message on the importance of standards and the role of ASTM's members. She also discusses the services and platforms provided by ASTM, and committees of the organization that address new and emerging industries.

"I am thrilled and humbled to serve as president of an organization that has played such a foundational role in meeting societal needs for over a century," said Ms. Morgan. "We will build on the legacy of Jim Thomas, attracting even more of the world's top technical experts to our committees while also serving people and organizations that rely on our standards and services."

Most recently, Ms. Morgan was ASTM's executive vice president, where she worked closely with Mr. Thomas to ensure a smooth transition. Prior, she was the organization's vice president of technical committee operations. Ms. Morgan joined ASTM in 1984 as a staff manager, and assumed roles of increasing responsibility in standards development for 30 years. In addition to being an ANSI Board member, she sits on the boards of the Council of Engineering and Scientific Executives, the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization, the Society for Standards Professionals (SES), and the American Society of Association Executives. She is a former member of the Standards Council of Canada's Standards Development Organization Advisory Committee.

The National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has appointed Tiffany J. Suite as executive vice president.

Ms. Suite has been with NEBB for two years, most recently as the director of operations and NEBB secretariat. She has nine years of certification management experience, and served as the chapter coordinator for the largest NEBB chapter (Capital MarVa International NEBB, covering the Washington, DC metropolitan area and international region). She was on the NEBB Mentoring Committee and Chapter Affairs Committee, and served as chair for the Chapter Coordinators Committee for two years.

"We have come to know and respect Tiffany during her time with NEBB as Director of Operations," said NEBB president Jim Kelleher. "Her work ethic, commitment and dedication to NEBB are exactly what the Board has been looking for in this important leadership position."
