ANSI Hosts SAC Administrator Liu on First U.S. Trip

Washington, DC, Sep 20, 2006

On September 18, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) hosted Standardization Administration of China (SAC) Administrator Liu Pingjun for bilateral meetings in Washington, DC. Administrator Liu was accompanied by a delegation of nine SAC officials and Chinese provincial-level officials.

Bilateral discussions between the two organizations focused on deepening ANSI/SAC cooperation and built on the progress of similar ANSI/SAC discussions in Beijing in May 2006. ANSI’s senior level “continuous engagement” with the People's Republic of China will continue with follow-up meetings scheduled in November 2006.

During Liu’s visit to Washington, DC, he also engaged in bilateral meetings with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and co-led a ceremony with ANSI president and CEO S. Joe Bhatia and NIST director William Jeffrey to launch, an online resource providing information on standardization in the U.S. and China [See related story: New Standards Portal Focuses on U.S.-China Trade].

This was the first visit to the United States for Administrator Liu, who assumed leadership over SAC in 2005. Administrator Liu has been involved in and committed to standardization in China throughout his career, with postings at the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of P. R. China (AQSIQ), the China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS), the Administrative Institute of China State Bureau of Technical Supervision, and the Standards Bureau of Jiangsu Province.
