NIST Invites Recommendations for 2009 Standards in Trade Workshops

New York, May 28, 2008

The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), a government member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is inviting all interested parties to recommend topics for the 2009 Standards in Trade Workshops. The deadline for recommendations is June 23, 2008.

The Global Standards and Information Group, part of NIST’s Standards Services division, provides Standards in Trade Workshops to inform foreign standards officials of U.S. practices in standards and conformity assessment. Prospective workshops, scheduled for a 3- to 5-day period, will cover specific sectors and targeted countries or regions of the world where training in the U.S. system of standards development, conformity assessment, and metrology may facilitate trade. Recommenders are encouraged to consider the priorities outlined in the 2007 National Export Strategy. NIST will consider recommendations based on which workshops would be most useful to intended audiences.

Workshop recommendations should include the following information:

  • name and description of the recommending person or organization
  • industry sector and suggested workshop title
  • proposed workshop objectives
  • calendar dates suggested for workshop
  • relevant NIST organizational link (workshop topics must be linked to NIST activities and/or research)
  • principal topics
  • related site visits and events
  • expected outcomes and measures of success

Recommendations can be submitted by email to Ellen Emard ( or by post to 100 Bureau Drive, Mail Stop 2100, Gaithersburg, MD 20899.
