ISO/IEC Information Centre goes online

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) have launched a new Web site for the joint ISO/IEC Information Centre located at features general information on the role of International Standards and Conformity Assessment, and shows how important these are in the facilitation of world trade. The Information Centre plays an important role in assisting in the implementation of the World Trade Organization's Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement. Specifically the Centre is cited in the "Code of Good Practice for the Preparation, Adoption and Application of Standards". It is therefore an essential Web site for all those involved in standardization and trade matters at the national, regional or international level. also features the IEC and ISO standards catalogues, standards under development, as well as a dedicated enquiry service. It thus helps market players and regulatory authorities to better monitor the development and make the greater use of IEC and ISO International Standards. Other pages include "Reference publications", which list publications used in the elaboration and/or adoption of International Standards, as well as the WSSN (World Standards Services Network) portal, which offers links to other standards catalogues and work programmes around the world.
