The week of events will feature the introduction of a resolution to the House of Representatives by Representatives Judy Biggert (R-IL) and Russ Carnahan (D-MO), co-chairs of the High-Performance Building Caucus. The resolution, Supporting the goals and ideals of High-Performance Building Week, outlines the importance of new education programs and research, the role of various federal agencies, and expanded access to information in promoting buildings that respond to needs and responsibilities for health, safety, energy and water efficiency, and usability by the American public.
Additional activities for the week include site visits, Congressional Briefings, and a reception honoring advancements toward widespread achievement of high-performance buildings.
The High-Performance Buildings Caucus of the U.S. Congress was formed to heighten awareness and inform policymakers about the major impact buildings have on our health, safety, and welfare and the opportunities to design, construct, and operate high-performance buildings that reflect our concern for these impacts. The HPBCCC is a private sector coalition that works with the High-Performance Building Caucus to promote best practices in building design. Features of high-performance buildings that the HPBCCC focuses on include accessibility, aesthetics, cost-effectiveness, functionality, historic preservation, productivity, safety and security, and sustainability.
