ANSI Announces Schedule for Education and Training Sessions

Core training courses offered in New York City in late October

New York, Sep 27, 2007

Beginning October 24, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is offering a three-day series of the Institute’s most popular courses for the administration of domestic and international standards programs.

Participants may choose a single one-day course or opt for a combination of courses during the week. Each session will be held in ANSI’s office in New York City.

  • For those who require in-depth training, our course on Wednesday, October 24, will provide a practical “how to” on the development of American National Standards (ANS). Students of course #287, The American Way: the American National Standard (ANS) Development Process, will gain greater understanding and guidance on the practical application of the ANS development process and procedures, and the value of ANSI accreditation. This course will be taught by staff from ANSI’s procedures and standards administration program.

  • The following day, students will turn their attention to the activities of U.S. Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) and the responsibilities of TAG members, administrators and leaders. Students enrolled in course #208, The Operating Procedures of U.S. TAGs to ISO: Strengthening the U.S. Voice in International Standardization, will explore the processes and operating procedures of ANSI-accredited U.S. technical advisory groups to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Crucial information about accreditation, membership, voting requirements and rules for developing positions will be presented, as well as tips on how to be an effective international delegate at ISO committee meetings. This course will be taught by staff from ANSI’s ISO Team (ISOT).

  • The week wraps up on Friday, October 26, with course #205, ISO Secretariat Operations: Taking the Secret out of the Secretariat. This session provides insight and advice on every aspect of successful ISO committee management. Participants will increase their understanding of the international standards development process and alternative deliverables, and learn effective management techniques. This course will be taught by staff from ANSI’s International Secretariats group.

"These sessions are a mainstay to those working or volunteering in standardization," explained Stacy Leistner, ANSI director of communication and education. “Students gain the additional benefit of attending a class taught by the ANSI staff who support these programs every day – no one will have more real-world experience to share than these instructors.”

Each course is $395 for ANSI members and $495 for non-members. Online registration is available.
