People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and accredited standards developer DRI International Inc. has announced the hiring of Brian Makowski as its new executive director. Mr. Makowski replaces former DRI executive director Al Berman, who will continue to serve as the organization's president.

Before joining DRI, Mr. Makowski served as the president of O/E Learning, a privately held education management firm, where he was responsible for overseeing the organization's business development, talent management, marketing, and operations, among other responsibilities. He previously served as O/E Learning's vice president and director of systems development, as well as an education instruction specialist for ANSI member IBM Corporation. Mr. Makowski received his bachelor's degree in engineering arts from Michigan State University and his master's degree in information management and communication from Michigan's Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Administration.

DRI is a nonprofit organization focused on business continuity planning, education, and certification. More than 10,000 active professionals worldwide have been certified by DRI, as well as individuals in more than 100 countries.


The American Petroleum Institute (API), an ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer, has hired Christopher Rager as its director of state relations. In his new position, Mr. Rager will be responsible for effectively advocating on behalf of the oil and natural gas industry and the interests of its member organizations.

Mr. Rager previously worked as senior state liaison for the National Rifle Association (NRA). He has also served as deputy associate director for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and as the director of legislative affairs with the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in economics from Pennsylvania's Lycoming College.

API is a national trade association representing the interests of more than 500 oil and natural gas companies. API members include oil and gas producers, refiners, suppliers, pipeline operators, marine transporters, and service and supply companies. The association provides advocacy, public outreach, research, standards development, certification, and education for the industry.
