November ANSI Caucus to Feature Department of Defense Director of Standards

On Friday, November 3, 2006, the ANSI Caucus will feature Mr. Gregory E. Saunders, director of the Defense Standardization Program Office (DISPO) at the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). A long-time proponent of voluntary consensus standards, Mr. Saunders will offer a government perspective on current issues impacting the standardization community.

Mr. Saunders oversees the Defense Department’s policies and procedures governing the development of military specifications and the adoption and use of standards produced by voluntary standards organizations. He leads an initiative to develop Joint Standardization Boards within DoD that address enterprise-wide standards strategies for designated commodity and technology areas. He also serves as vice-chair of the department’s Defense Standardization Council and as the DoD representative to the Interagency Committee on Standards Policy, an advisory group to the Secretary of Commerce and other executive branch agencies on standards policy matters.

In addition to his responsibilities at DoD, Mr. Saunders holds a number of leadership positions in the standardization community. Chair of the ANSI Government Member Forum and the SAE International Aerospace Council, he also serves on the ANSI Board of Directors and as vice-chairman of the Board of ASTM International.
