ANSI Seeks Comments on Proposed New ISO Field of Activity on Domestic Gas Cooking Appliances

1/23/2014
The German Institute for Standardization (DIN), Germany's member body to International Organization for Standardization (ISO), has submitted a proposal to ISO for a new field of technical activity on domestic gas cooking appliances. As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) invites all interested stakeholders to submit comments on the proposal by Friday, March 7, 2014.

According to the proposal, the activity would focus on standardization work associated with domestic gas cooking appliances, including related terminology, classification, performance characteristics, and test methods, with the goal of providing safety and performance frameworks for these devices. As part of this work, development of an international standard for domestic gas cooking appliances would be pursued, with the new standard drawing from existing national and regional standards. This new activity would not pursue standardization work related to cookstoves; work in that area is carried out by ISO Technical Committee (TC) 285, Clean cookstoves and clean cooking solutions.

All comments on this proposal should be sent to Steven Cornish, ANSI senior director for international policy ([email protected]). Feedback received by the March 7 deadline will be reviewed and compiled for the recommended ANSI position and comment, which will then be presented to the ANSI ISO Council for formal approval.

The full proposal filed by DIN is available online.
