Reminder: Register Now for World Standards Week 2007

New York, Sep 18, 2007

intro image In celebration of World Standards Week 2007 (WSW), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will offer a series of forums, networking events and ceremonies, on October 15-18, in Washington, DC. Highlights of the week’s schedule of events follow:

October 17

  • The ANSI Company Member Forum/NAM Manufacturers Network will kick off WSW 2007’s special events calendar with a meeting on REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) and its impact on U.S. industry. A group formed by ANSI and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturers Network on Chemical Regulation assists companies with compliance and encourages greater cooperation within U.S. industry. All affected parties are encouraged to join.
  • The 2007 ANSI Legal Issues Forum will focus on tort liability and its impact on the standards and conformity assessment community. Expert speakers will discuss key decisions involving standards developing organizations, liability issues, and ways to mitigate or avoid tort lawsuits. The narrow focus of this year’s forum make it a must-attend event for anyone interested in protecting his or her organization from anti-trust, consumer-related, and other types of tort damages.
  • The ANSI Annual Awards Reception, Banquet and Ceremony is a long-standing tradition that recognizes the creativity, dedication and vision of individuals who contribute to and participate in standards-setting and conformity assessment activities. This year’s black-tie optional evening celebration will honor fourteen award recipients for their noteworthy contributions.

October 18

  • The ANSI Annual Business Meeting and Luncheon will feature presentations by Robert W. Noth, chairman of the ANSI Board of Directors, and ANSI president and CEO S. Joe Bhatia. ANSI's leaders will share their assessment of the past year and offer an overview of ANSI’s current pursuits and milestones. Note: advance registration is required; those registered for other October 18 WSW meetings are not automatically registered for this event.
  • Focusing on the theme “Standards and the Global Village,” the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day 2007 exhibits, reception, and dinner will recognize the role of standardization programs in bolstering social progress and stimulating economic development in every corner of the world. Dr. James Hill, acting deputy director at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will be honored with the Ronald H. Brown Standards Leadership Award.

ANSI Member Forums
In conjunction with this year’s WSW activities, ANSI will also host a series of events for the Institute’s four member forums: the Company Member Forum (10/17 and 10/18), the Consumer Interest Forum (10/17), the Organizational Member Forum (10/18) and the Government Member Forum (10/18). Offered free of charge to ANSI members, the member forum meetings allow ANSI member representatives to network and address issues of mutual interest. The ANSI Joint Member Forum will be held on the morning of Thursday, October 18.
