New York, Mar 05, 2007

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is inviting leaders of the U.S. standardization community to participate in the third conference on U.S. Leadership in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The conference will be held May 23-24, 2007, in Chicago, IL, in conjunction with the meetings of the USNC Council and the ANSI ISO Forum. U.S. officers of ISO and IEC Technical Committees and Subcommittees, Technical Advisory Group (TAG) officers and administrators, Heads of Delegations to ISO and IEC meetings, and technical experts participating in U.S. TAG and IEC and ISO activities are encouraged to attend.

The ANSI Conference on U.S. Leadership in ISO and IEC will commence with an open plenary followed by concurrent breakout sessions targeted specifically to the needs of ISO and IEC participants. The second day of the conference will reunite all attendees for a series of presentations and panel discussions on cross-cutting issues impacting both organizations. Topics to be covered include: leveraging strategic alliances with mirror organizations in other countries, the adoption of International Standards in governmental regulations, and the use of information technology in standards-setting.

“The conference is an opportunity for members of the U.S. standards community to collaborate on tactics and strategies relating to standards-setting at the international level,” explained Gary Kushnier, ANSI vice president, international policy.

Interested parties are invited to assist ANSI in tailoring the conference program. Suggestions for timely and relevant topics for discussion during the ISO/IEC breakouts, or additional topics for the cross-cutting section of the program, may be directed to Rachel Howenstine, program administrator, standards facilitation (rhowenstine@ansi.org).
