Kate McMillan Remembered

Washington, DC, May 21, 2003

Kathleen “Kate” McMillan, senior director of standards at the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), passed away this morning following a long battle with cancer.

Kate served the standards community since 1988 and guided the INCITS Secretariat through several transitions during her years as director. Her loyalty, intelligence and generous spirit were matched by her sense of humor. Friends reported that she projected cheer and optimism until her final days.

The following remarks were shared on behalf of ANSI:

The staff of the American National Standards Institute
wishes to express to the family and friends of Kate McMillan
our deepest sympathy during this time of sorrow.
We are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Those of us who were fortunate to know Kate personally
recognize that we were touched by a very special human being.

Her warm spirit, sound advice, and dedicated leadership
helped colleagues from around the globe remain focused on
advancing the information technology industry to the point that it is today: touching and improving the lives of the world’s citizens.

Kate’s warmth and friendship extended well beyond
the traditional work bond. We will remember her not only
as our colleague, but also as our friend.

She will be greatly missed.
