People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The International Society of Automation (ISA), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has appointed Mary Ramsey as its new executive director.

Ms. Ramsey has over 25 years of industrial automation experience, and has served ISA's interim executive director since January 2018. Previously, she was senior vice president of process automation, Americas region at Schneider Electric. There, she was responsible for a $550 million profit/loss statement and 1,200 employees. Prior to that, she was Schneider's senior vice president of industry business USA, and senior vice president of industry business Europe. She has also held business development roles with Matrikon International, Instrinsyc, Inc, and GE Fanuc. Ms. Ramsey holds an MBA degree from Loyola University, and a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky.

"Mary is a dynamic, experienced leader with a deep understanding of automation and the industries we represent," said 2018 ISA president Brian Curtis. "She has proven her ability to think strategically and help the organization align its priorities during her tenure as interim executive director, and we are excited to welcome her on board permanently."


The International Safe Transit Association (ISTA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that Brian O'Banion is its new vice president of research and education. In this role, Mr. O'Banion will focus on establishing and executing ISTA's long-range strategy and vision for research and education services. He will oversee the development, delivery, and maintenance of educational programs, along with management and execution of the organization's research efforts.

Mr. O'Banion brings with him nearly 20 years of experience in trade association management addressing a variety of issues in the packing industry, including technical, environmental, health, safety, RFID, competing materials, and sustainability issues. He is also experienced in the global food and beverage packaging technologies space.

Mr. O'Banion holds a Masters in Administrative Science degree from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan.
