10/21/2019

Register for WSW events by October 23

With just a few weeks left until World Standards Week 2019, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) reminds interested stakeholders to register for its exciting lineup of World Standards Week 2019 events by October 23. Held November 4-8 in Washington, DC, this year's schedule includes meetings and events designed to inspire open dialogue about standardization, conformity assessment, and workforce development priorities. In addition to ANSI member forum and policy committee meetings, the week's highlights include:

Legal Issues Forum: November 6

This year's Legal Issues Forum, to focus on Standardization and the Cannabis Industry, will examine the legal implications, challenges, and opportunities for standards developing organizations and conformity assessment bodies in light of the continued growth of the cannabis industry and the shifting legal landscape.

The forum will feature interactive panel discussions including The Current and Evolving Legal Landscape: Clarifying the Rules and Regulations that Govern Cannabis Sales, Production, and Use in the U.S. - and the Implications for Standardization, followed by a session on Standardization to Support Industry and Public Health and Safety: Current Conformity Assessment Activities Related to Cannabis/Hemp.

ANSI-NIST Symposium: November 6

In collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), ANSI will host the Symposium: Fostering Partnerships to Integrate Standards into College Curriculum in the U.S. to underscore how U.S. companies can benefit from a workforce that understands the value of standards, especially as innovations and technologies continue to evolve. As colleges and universities add standards learning to the classroom curricula across the nation, ANSI's Committee on Education and other segments of the standards community are offering opportunities for schools to better prepare students for successful careers in standards.

This symposium will bring together participants from industry, the standards community, and academia to look at the work of several institutions of higher education, explore the next steps towards better preparing students and young professionals for careers in which standards are intertwined, and identify opportunities for increased engagement in education initiatives for the standardization community.

The 2019 award recipients will be celebrated at the Fairmont Hotel, joining a long and distinguished list of past honorees who have left their mark in the history of the ANSI Federation and the standardization community worldwide.
