May 11 ANSI Cities Network Webinar Features ISO Climate Change Coordinating Committee

4/25/2016

On May 11, from 2 pm to 3 pm Eastern, the monthly webinar of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Network on Smart and Sustainable Cities (ANSSC) will feature a report on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Management Board (TMB) Climate Change Coordinating Committee (CCCC). Tod Delaney, founder and president of First Environment, a New Jersey-based environmental engineering and consulting firm, will be the featured speaker. Mr. Delaney served as chair of the CCCC.

Established in September 2013, the CCC was charged with reviewing ISO deliverables related to climate change mitigation and adaptation; assessing the needs of stakeholders for climate change standards, especially the needs of developing countries; identifying gaps and providing advice and guidance on the development of ISO standards on climate change; and developing proposals for future actions and possible further study. The group was also tasked with identifying and collaborating with key international organizations on climate change, such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) with a view to collecting input, developing joint projects/initiatives, raising awareness, and promoting the participation of their respective stakeholders in international development and implementation. The CCCC submitted its final report to the ISO TMB in December 2015, and in February 2016, the TMB approved the CCCC's recommendation to establish a new task force to pursue additional activities related to ISO standards and climate change.

Tod Delaney, Ph.D., PE, BCEE, is the founder and president of First Environment, as well as a veteran of the U.S. Army. Since the firm's inception he has provided direction, management, and technical oversight of the most complex projects across all service areas. He serves as an expert witness for natural resource damages and chemicals litigation cases. As a chemical and environmental health engineer, he also reviews all designs of remedial systems for site investigation and remediation projects. Prior to serving as CCCC chair, Mr. Delaney participated in the development of ISO 14064 parts 1 and 2, ISO 14065, ISO 14066, and ISO 14067 regarding greenhouse gas verification and carbon footprinting. Mr. Delaney is also involved in First Environment work in emerging areas such as environmental product certifications, green/climate bonds, and renewable fuel certification.

The ANSSC is a forum for information sharing on standardization developments for smart and sustainable cities in the U.S. and abroad. Participation in the network's monthly webinars and valuable information sharing between webinars is a benefit of membership for ANSI full members. Others are invited to join the network and pay a nominal fee. Sponsorship opportunities are also available which include network participation, recognition at the start of monthly webinars, and other benefits.
