The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named Samantha Slater its vice president of government affairs. In this role, Ms. Slater will oversee all of AHRI's federal and state legislative activities.

Prior to joining AHRI, Ms. Slater was the lead lobbyist for the Renewable Fuels Association, where she played a key role in preserving ethanol's role in the federal renewable fuels standard and the federal tax credit for ethanol. She also worked with the National Corn Growers Association, the Electric Power Supply Association, and the National Independent Energy Producers. She brings with her more than two decades of experience in government relations, working as an industry advocate on public policy issues related to energy, the environment, and the economy, and holds a degree in international studies from American University.

"We are excited to welcome someone with Samantha's extensive federal and state government experience to our public policy advocacy team," said AHRI president and CEO Stephen Yurek. "Her knowledge of the legislative process, her extensive contacts on Capitol Hill, particularly in the energy and environment related committees, and her track record of accomplishment in the public policy arena will be invaluable to AHRI as we strive to achieve our legislative goals in the 116th Congress."

The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), an ANSI member, has appointed Amanda Walsh as its associate vice president for governmental affairs.

Previously, Ms. Walsh was a senior manager of legislative affairs, as well as interim director of legislative affairs, at America's Essential Hospitals. She has also worked for former Congressman Richard Hanna and former Senator David Vitter. Ms. Walsh earned a B.A. from James Madison University, and a J.D. from the University of District of Columbia's David A. Clarke School of Law.

"We're thrilled to have Amanda join the AdvaMed team and help shape our advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill," said Greg Crist, AdvaMed chief advocacy officer and head of external affairs. "Amanda's impressive experience in the health care policy arena will bring immeasurable value to AdvaMed as we work to improve access to innovative medical technology in the U.S. and around the world."
