People on the Move

2/02/2018

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The International Code Council (ICC), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute(ANSI), has named Neil Burning as its new vice president of government affairs. In this role, Mr. Burning will develop and direct programs and resources supporting the adoption of International Codes (I-Codes).

Mr. Burning has over 30 years of experience in codes and standards, most recently as vice president of construction, codes, and standards for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). There, he led the development of the organization's advocacy efforts related to residential construction codes and standards development, implementation, and enforcement. Mr. Burning is a certified building official, combination inspector, building plans examiner, reinforced concrete inspector, and commercial electrical inspector.

"We are very excited to welcome Neil to the team," said ICC CEO Dominic Sims. "The Code Council and our membership will greatly benefit from Neil's extensive knowledge of the I-Codes and the industry as we advocate for the adoption of modern, regularly-updated, and cost-efficient codes and standards in jurisdictions across the U.S."

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an ANSI member and audited designator, has announced that Seth Statler is its new director of government affairs.

Prior to joining NFPA, Mr. Statler was associate administrator for legislative and intergovernmental affairs at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). There, he managed NASA's relationships with the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, and other state and local officials. He also developed and implemented the organization's communications strategies and coordinated Congressional hearings and events. Previously, Mr. Statler was a deputy assistant commissioner for the U.S. Custom and Border Protection. He is a member of the board and treasurer of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).

ASHRAE, an ANSI member and audited designator, has named Jeremy Pollack as manager of federal government affairs.

Mr. Pollack comes to ASHRAE from Gephardt Government Affairs, a legislative and regulatory strategy shop, where he served as director since January 2015. Previously, he was a state advocacy intern for the office of Governor John Hickenlooper, and a legislative intern for the office of Congressman Jared Polis. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder.
