Proposed New Field of ISO Technical Activity to Focus on Online Reputation

10/25/2013
AFNOR, the French member body to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), has submitted a proposal for a new field of technical activity in connection with online reputation. As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) invites all interested stakeholders to submit comments on the proposal by Friday, December 6, 2013.

According to the new work proposal, the technical activity would focus on tools, methods, and best practices associated with the online reputations of organizations, companies, services, products, and individuals in connection with social media, as well as efficient processes, practices, and measures linked to data that can be captured through searches on social media websites. This new technical activity would exclude standardization work on related topics already overseen by other ISO technical committees (TCs) and subcommittees (SCs), including: standardization related to privacy and data protection frameworks and security information standardization; management system standardization; standardization related to fraud countermeasures and controls; and brand evaluation standardization.

All comments on this proposal should be sent to Steven Cornish, ANSI senior director for international policy ([email protected]). Feedback received by the December 6 deadline will be reviewed and compiled for the recommended ANSI position and comment, which will then be presented to the ANSI ISO Council for formal approval.

The full proposal filed by AFNOR is available online.

ANSI has published an explanatory information document outlining the process used to develop U.S. positions on issues and activities under consideration by ISO and IEC. Click here to download the document.
