HHS Awards Grant to Propel Health Information Technology in the Private Sector
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Mike Leavitt announced that LMI Consulting together with the Brookings Institution will receive a grant to establish a partnership that will work to advance the national adoption of health IT. Succeeding the American Health Information Community (AHIC), the LMI-Brookings team will establish AHIC 2.0 by December 2008.

With equally engaged public and private stakeholders, the partnership will foster the development of a nationwide health information network, expand access to interoperable health IT, and ensure a self-sustaining health IT standards process.

As administrator of the Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), a multi-stakeholder group working with HHS to assure the interoperability of electronic health care data, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has expressed its continued commitment to contributing expertise and leadership in support of the LMI-Brookings partnership.
