Brailer Resigns as AHIC Vice Chair, Launches Private Equity Fund
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) has announced the resignation of David J. Brailer, MD, as vice chair of the HHS advisory group the American Health Information Community (AHIC). Brailer will launch Health Evolution Partners—a private equity fund dedicated to lowering healthcare costs in the United States with a focus on healthcare IT.

Brailer was appointed National Health Information Technology Coordinator in 2004 under a presidential executive order that called for widespread adoption of healthcare IT by 2014. During his two-year tenure at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) was awarded a contract to establish the Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP). The panel’s mission is to assist in the development of a nationwide health information network (NHIN) by facilitating the development of interoperable healthcare data standards for the United States.

Prior to his appointment at ONCHIT, Brailer was a Senior Fellow at the Health Technology Center in California, served ten years as chairman and CEO of CareScience, Inc., and sat on the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association.

Hambrick joined the NAM one year ago as director and co-host of “America’s Business with Mike Hambrick,” the association’s weekly radio program dedicated to manufacturing issues. Under his leadership, the program has expanded to reach airwaves on seventy-one radio stations nationwide. A former TV news anchor in Washington, Pittsburgh, Dallas and Phoenix, Hambrick has owned and managed a multi-media production company, as well as small to medium market radio stations. He has also produced award winning television reports on the war in Bosnia, following an eight-week tour of the war zone with Admiral Leighton Smith, Commander of I-Four Forces.
