The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is pleased to announce that the next ANSI Caucus Luncheon, to be held Friday, September 13, 2013, will welcome back Vanessa Allen Sutherland, chief counsel for the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
In October 2011, Ms. Allen Sutherland was sworn-in as PHMSA chief counsel, following her acceptance of a federal appointment. She oversees a group of lawyers and support personnel responsible for the preparation and use of grants, contracts, and enforcement tools related to the PHMSA's mission. She also represents the agency on civil rights, employment, and federal personnel matters, among other duties. Ms. Allen Sutherland previously served as senior counsel at Altria Client Services, where she oversaw procurement issues, audits by governmental bodies, and issues related to corporate reorganization. She earned her undergraduate degree from New Jersey's Drew University, and holds an MBA and a law degree from American University in Washington, DC.
