People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.

Charles T. Zegers, senior director of international policy for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and general secretary for the United States National Committee of the International Electrotechincal Commission (USNC/IEC), has announced his planned retirement for the end of 2015.

Mr. Zegers has worked with ANSI for over 35 years, first joining in May 1980 as director of standards audit, accreditation, and review. He was named program director of international policy and general secretary, USNC/IEC, in 1990. In January 2009 Mr. Zegers assumed his current position as senior director.

“Charlie has given ANSI and the USNC many exceptional years of service, leadership, and friendship. We thank him for his valuable contributions that have advanced the Institute’s mission as well as electrotechnical standardization around the world,” said ANSI president and CEO S. Joe Bhatia. “We wish him all the best for a happy and healthy retirement.”

Tony Zertuche will be promoted to director, international policy, and general secretary, USNC/IEC, effective January 1, 2016. Tony joined ANSI in March 2007 as a program administrator with the ISO Team, and was promoted to program manager, international policy (USNC) in May 2009, and senior manager, international policy in January 2013.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an ANSI member and audited designator, has announced the appointment of Nathaniel Lin as director of strategy and analytics. In this newly created role, Mr. Lin will lead the association’s new strategic initiative on big data acquisition, analytics, and application. He will identify, assess, and develop resources to assist the association in delivering enhanced information, knowledge, and advice to its audiences.

Mr. Lin comes to the position with a background in business and marketing analytics, and has held analytic roles at Fidelity Investments, OgilvyOne, Aspen Marketing, and IBM Worldwide. While at IBM Asia Pacific, Mr. Lin built and led a marketing analytics group that won a DMA/NCDM Gold Award in B2B Marketing.

“We’re thrilled to have Nathaniel on board to guide us toward a whole new strategy for data acquisition, analytics and application to the fire problem,” said Kathleen Almand, NFPA’s vice president of research. “I’m confident that Nathaniel’s experience leading multi-national marketing analytics groups will play an invaluable role in influencing better decision-making at NFPA, and allow us to deliver more data-driven tools.”
