American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and accredited standards developer Health Level Seven International (HL7) recently announced the hiring of Ticia Gerber as its new director of global partnership and policy. Ms. Gerber will be responsible for oversight of HL7's policy work and advocacy activities, and will work to expand HL7's partnerships with important stakeholders in the healthcare IT field.

Prior to joining HL7, Ms. Gerber founded the Integrative Center for eHealth (ICE), an organization focused on the advancement of health IT use and performance through the extension of relevant policy and communications capabilities. She also oversaw work by the United Nations' World Health Organization (WHO) developing international resources for the implementation of health IT systems, and advised the Rockefeller Foundation on eHealth initiatives and related issues. Ms. Gerber received her bachelor's degree in political science from American University in Washington, DC, and her master's degree in health science and health policy from Maryland's The Johns Hopkins University.

HL7 is a nonprofit standards developing organization (SDO) that works to provide framework documents and standards related to electronic health information and related needs. The organization represents more than 2,300 members in more than 30 countries around the world, including more than 90% of healthcare information system vendors.

The American Welding Society (AWS), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has hired William Fudale as its chief marketing officer and Dennis Harwig as chief technology officer. Mr. Fudale will oversee the AWS's global expansion strategy and will head up efforts to bolster international business development, as well as advertising and show sales; he will also lead AWS's marketing and communications divisions. Mr. Harwig will be responsible for AWS's education services and technical services departments.

Before joining AWS, Mr. Fudale served as president and global sales and marketing director for Magswitch. He obtained his bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Ohio State University. Mr. Harwig previously worked as director for center development at the Edison Welding Institute, and has significant experience in the direct welding industry, including stints at the R.D. Drage Career Technical Center and ANSI member General Electric Corporation. He received his bachelor of science and master's of science degree in welding engineering from Ohio State University and his doctorate in welding engineering technology from the United Kingdom's Cranfield University.

AWS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the technology and application of welding, joining, and cutting processes. The society represents nearly 70,000 members worldwide through its 22 districts and 250 sections and student chapters.
