April ANSI Caucus Revisits OSHA Standards Project

On Friday, April 1, 2005, the ANSI Caucus will feature Mr. Lee Smith, director of the Office of Safety Systems in the Directorate of Standards and Guidance at the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). His office develops regulations and guidance materials for safety systems in general industry and provides interpretations of the regulations. OSHA launched its Standards Improvement Project in 2002 in several phases to remove and revise provisions of its standards that were outdated, redundant, or unnecessary.

This Friday, Mr. Smith, who spoke to the Caucus last year about this OSHA project, will inform the group on recent activities to update OSHA standards based on industry specifications and national consensus standards.

The April sponsor is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE). The April Caucus event will begin at 11:30 am with general networking, and lunch will be served at 12:00 noon.
