ANSI Calls for Workshop Proposals on Standardization Issues in U.S.-India Trade

New York, Mar 25, 2009

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is inviting U.S. organizations to submit proposals for workshops related to the Institute’s U.S.-India Standards and Conformance Cooperation Program (SCCP). These workshops should be targeted exchanges between industry stakeholders, and should address specific standards and conformance-related issues that impact U.S.-India Trade.

SCCP, launched in March 2009, aims to improve access for U.S. companies to the Indian market by boosting cooperation on standards and conformance issues. The initiative will be carried out by the Institute with funding from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and in coordination with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). [see related article]

The program seeks to provide matching funding to five U.S. organizations interested in co-sponsoring standards and conformance-related workshops with ANSI and CII in India. Co-sponsoring organizations will have a unique opportunity to shape the agendas of these events and to address their objectives in India. In addition, sponsoring organizations will benefit from significant visibility through promotion efforts of ANSI in the U.S. and CII in India.

Proposed workshops must demonstrate industry relevance and significance, and will be subject to approval on a first-come, first-served basis by CII and an SCCP Advisory Panel comprised of U.S. stakeholders. Proposals should include the following elements:

  • A description of the proposed workshop (sector(s) of interest, topics for discussion, proposed participants, timetable, sample agenda)

  • Evidence of how the workshop will help U.S. exports in the sector of interest

  • Demonstration of how conducting the workshop under the SCCP in cooperation with ANSI and CII provides a unique value-add

Interested parties are requested to submit a proposal form along with any accompanying information to Leslie McDermott (; 202.331.3626). Questions about the workshops or the U.S.-India SCCP may also be addressed to Ms. McDermott.

Program details and an information package including details of the workshop process, sample venue information, and sample budgets can be found on the U.S.-India SCCP website at
