ANSI Celebrates International Women's Day

International Standards Improve the Daily Lives of Women

The American National Standards Institute joins a global community in the celebration of International Women's Day 2019 with the theme Balance for Better by sharing news about how international standards improve the daily lives of women and are forging a more gender-balance world with improved sanitation systems.

A newly published standard will revolutionize the development of "next generation toilets," also known as "non-sewered sanitation systems," and will encourage cleaner safer sanitation systems for populations in communities across the planet. The International Organization for Standardization's ISO 30500, Non-sewered sanitation systems — Prefabricated integrated treatment units — General safety and performance requirements for design and testing, is helping to support better and safer toilets in areas where infrastructure such as sewers, plumbing and electricity are not available, resulting in unhealthy and unsanitary conditions, especially for women. ANSI encourages everyone to share this infographic focused on the critical ISO work the U.S. has helped lead to improve the health and safety of millions of women worldwide.
