Two new American National Standard Institute (ANSI)-approved standards, developed by ANSI members and accredited standards developers the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), will facilitate improved communication between engineers and contractors when planning and assessing tower construction, and will help protect workers in the communications tower industry.
ANSI approved both documents as American National Standards in August 2016:
ANSI/TIA-322, Loading Criteria, Analysis, and Design Related to the Installation, Alteration and Maintenance of Communication Structures
ANSI/ASSE A10.48, Criteria for Safety Practices with the Construction, Demolition, Modification and Maintenance of Communications Structures
The two new standards have a common basis in the TIA-1019-A standard, first published in 2012, which covers the installation, alteration, and maintenance of antenna supporting structures and antennas.
Through coordinated efforts, ASSE and TIA evolved TIA-1019-A for two distinct audiences in construction planning and implementation. Portions of TIA-1019-A were brought into the new TIA-322 standard, and other portions were brought into the ANSI/ASSE A10.48 standard. The TIA and ASSE committees responsible for these standards worked closely together in a joint effort to ensure that the standards are synchronized and complementary.
