People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), an accredited standards developer and organizational member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has hired Elizabeth Bartheld as its vice president for government affairs. Ms. Bartheld will oversee all of AF&PA's governmental affairs activities at the state and federal level, and will be responsible for the association's political action committee (PAC) and related grassroots work.

Ms. Bartheld previously served as Oklahoma Congressman John Sullivan's chief of staff for nearly 10 years. Prior to holding that position, she worked as legislative director for both Congressman Sullivan and Oklahoma Congressman Wes Watkins. Ms. Bartheld received her bachelor's degree in psychology and political science from Baylor University and her MBA from the University of Maryland.

AF&PA represents the interests of U.S. pulp, paper, packaging, and wood products manufacturers, as well as forest landowners. Accounting for approximately 5 percent of the total U.S. manufacturing GDP, the forest products industry produces about $190 billion in products annually and employs nearly 900,000 people.


ANSI member and accredited standards developer the American Nuclear Society (ANS) has announced the appointment of Diane Cianflone as director of membership and marketing. Ms. Cianflone will be responsible for the society's member recruitment and retention, as well as the marketing of society activities and offerings to professionals in the nuclear field.

Prior to joining ANS, Ms. Cianflone served as the American Bar Association (ABA)'s director of membership. She also has previous experience in market research, marketing management, and product development. Ms. Cianflone holds a bachelor's in art history from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

ANS represents more than 11,000 scientists and engineers involved in non-military nuclear science and technology activities. Its members are drawn from a wide range of engineering disciplines, as well as from the physical and biological sciences within the nuclear field.


The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC)'s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), an ANSI government member, is seeking applications for the position of chief facilities management officer (CFMO). The CFMO will report to Mary Saunders, NIST's associate director for management resources (ADMR), and will serve as the principal advisor on all matters related to the physical operations of the institute, while also overseeing NIST's Boulder, Colorado, and Gaithersburg, Maryland, facilities. The CFMO will establish policies governing the coordination, management, and administration of NIST's construction of new buildings, renovation and maintenance of existing locations, and site operations, as well as the execution of emergency services, mail and transportation, and physical security, among other general services.
