Standards Council of Canada to Host 67th IEC General Meeting

New York, Oct 07, 2003

The 67th General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) will be held in Montréal, Québec Canada, from October 12 to 17 at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal. The General Meeting is an opportunity for electrotechnical experts to engage in strategic dialogue and technical discussions on standardization matters that impact the global electrical and electronics industry. ANSI is coordinating a delegation of U.S. representatives to attend.

As host of the series of events, the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) will observe World Standards Day during the General Meeting. Celebrated annually on October 14, World Standards Day pays tribute to the collaborative efforts of the experts that develop international standards.

In his welcoming letter, IEC President Sei-ichi Takayanagi urged participants to bear in mind several issues during their work this year, including the needs of the consumer as well as the important role that industrializing countries have to play in the work of IEC.

Participation in the IEC 2003 General Meeting is open to all delegates appointed by IEC National Committees and to representatives of invited international organizations. Election of the Standardization Management Board (SMB) chairman and IEC vice president position will be held at the Meeting, for which Frank Kitzantides, U.S. National Committee vice president, has been nominated.
