People on the Move

5/25/2018

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that its president and CEO Henry Green is planning to retire.

Mr. Green has led NIBS for nearly a decade, joining the organization in August 2008. At NIBS, he expanded collaboration across the building industry and strengthened the Consultative Council. He initiated new Institute councils and committees, and restarted NIBS's independent conference. Prior to joining NIBS, Mr. Green served on its Board of Directors for eight years. He was the executive director of the Bureau of Construction Codes in the Michigan Department of Labor for nearly 20 years, and was a founding member of the International Code Council Board of Directors.

"My time spent here at the National Institute of Building Sciences has been very rewarding," said Mr. Green. "It fulfills one of my long-held beliefs that we all can make a difference in the building industry and the Institute gave me that opportunity. I wish my successor all the best in continuing the important work of this unique organization."

The NIBS Board of Directors is beginning the search for Mr. Green's successor, with the transition expected to occur at the end of 2018.

The International Code Council (ICC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has appointed Gabe Maser as its new vice president of federal relations. In this role, Mr. Maser will manage and direct the organization's federal policy and legislative priorities agenda, and lead its advocacy work in Washington, DC.

Mr. Maser comes to ICC with many years of experience in government relations and federal policy. Previously, he was a regional director for market expansion and policy at Renovate America. Prior to that, he was the director of federal-state relations for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a legislative assistant for a member of Congress, and an associate at Baker Botts LLP. Mr. Maser is a licensed lawyer in the District of Columbia and Massachusetts.

"We're excited to welcome Gabe to the ICC family. His background and experience will help us strengthen our relationships with key decision-makers in the executive and legislative branches and provide a strong voice in Washington, D.C., for our members," said ICC senior vice president of government relations Sara Yerkes.
