ANSI Partners with the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council

7/16/2013
As part of its continuing efforts to support effective standards and accreditation activities, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC), a non-profit organization dedicated to bolstering future economic, societal, and environmental outcomes by advancing more sustainable purchasing practices.

Through the MoU, ANSI and SPLC agree to establish a strategic partnership in support of the enhanced recognition of credible standards and ecolabels associated with sustainable purchasing activities. ANSI will provide guidance and related expertise to SPLC in support of this mission, while SPLC will coordinate communications with its members regarding relevant ANSI activities and provide other additional support.

SPLC will officially mark the beginning of its efforts with a launch event webcast at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. The 90-minute webcast will feature Jason Pearson, SPLC's executive director, as well as representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), the GreenBiz Group, OfficeDepot, and American University. The council will provide methods to measure impacts related to purchasing and spending, identify existing standards to address these impacts, and develop a sustainable purchasing leadership recognition program modeled on the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)'s LEED green building program. USGBC is an ANSI member and accredited standards developer.
