People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

John J. Knappenberger has just been named incoming president of the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB). In this capacity, Mr. Knappenberger will oversee ANAB accreditation programs for management systems and testing and calibration laboratories.

A joint partnership of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ), ANAB is a global leader in the accreditation of certification bodies (CBs) for ISO 9001 quality management systems (QMS), ISO 14001 environmental management systems (EMS), and other industry-specific certification programs.

“John’s wealth of executive management experience will be invaluable to ANAB’s continued growth,” said Connie Conboy, chair of the ANAB Board of Directors. “His personal skills and strong customer focus will allow him to work effectively with ANAB’s many stakeholders. His experience in global markets will serve us well as he continues our efforts to enhance acceptance and recognition of ANAB programs nationally and worldwide.”

Mr. Knappenberger comes to ANAB from Dura Automotive Systems, Inc., where he held the titles of vice president of information technology and administration from 1999-2007 and vice president of quality and materials from 1995-1999. Before joining Dura, Knappenberger was director of quality for Carrier Corporation's North American Operations.

  • Project Coordinator - International Development Policy
    Based in the Washington office, this position’s responsibilities include support in the administration and implementation of several government contract and grant projects pertaining to international development/standardization in the Asia Pacific region.
  • Communications Assistant/Journalist
    Based in the New York office, the communications assistant/journalist will help to grow awareness of the Institute and its products and services, as well as the broader standards and conformity assessment community, by writing and distributing editorial content targeted to specific audiences and to the general public.
  • Vice President, Publications
    Based in the New York office, this position provides executive leadership to establish ANSI’s strategic and operational goals for sales and revenue growth through product diversification e.g. publications sales, membership. The position will leverage existing lines of business and relationships to tap new markets beyond the core publications sales business. The position will be sharply focused on creating the most efficient and profitable new revenue and sales opportunities for ANSI, while establishing relationships to facilitate new sales and revenue growth. In addition, this position will be aligned with both regional and world-wide sales and marketing initiatives to support the Institute’s growth objectives.
