ANSI and SES Collaborate to Promote Standards and Conformity Assessment Systems at SES Annual Conference

New York, Jul 10, 2006

On August 14-15, 2006, the Standards Engineering Society (SES) will host its 55th Annual Conference, in Cleveland, Ohio. The conference, entitled “Standards Rock! Achieving Business Harmony,” will feature a keynote address by S. Joe Bhatia, president and chief executive officer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Panel discussions will give focus to a wide range of issues impacting the standards community today, including:

  • benefits and barriers to regional and international harmonization;
  • the role of competing standards in the global marketplace;
  • emergency preparedness, disaster management, and security standards;
  • interoperability of consumer entertainment products; and
  • the future of standards training and education.
In conjunction with the SES conference, ANSI will offer a training program, Making the Most of the Public-Private Partnership in Standards. The education course will explore public-private sector standards setting partnerships in relation to U.S. competitiveness in the global marketplace; health and safety; security and defense; environmental concerns; and technological advancement. Redesigned in recognition of the tenth anniversary of the National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act (NTTAA), the course will also address the ways in which federal laws and policies affect federal use of voluntary standards. The course will run from 8:00a.m. through 5:00p.m. on Thursday, August 17.
