Reliable chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) countermeasures equipment is essential for the protection of life, health, property, and commerce. With an eye toward this critical aspect of national preparedness, in 2011 the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) collaborated with the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Commerce (DOC) to release the
National Strategy for CBRNE Standards, outlining the federal vision and goals for the coordination and implementation of CBRNE equipment standards by 2020. On May 31, 2012, the
American National Standards Institute Homeland Security Standards Panel (ANSI-HSSP) will host a
Workshop on CBRNE Standards to provide an overview of the
national strategy and the status of the related work being done in the federal government.
The workshop will focus on the implementation of the national strategy by private-sector stakeholders, and will include feedback from the implementers. There will be the opportunity for an open discussion on how the strategy impacts private-sector organizations. All ANSI and ANSI-HSSP members, constituents, and other interested stakeholders are welcome to attend. The event will take place on May 31, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the
Capital Conference Center in Arlington, VA. Attendance is free of charge, but all attendees must register by May 15, 2012, as space is limited. For more information or to register, visit the
event page.
The ANSI-HSSP provides the unique opportunity for the homeland security, emergency preparedness, business continuity communities, and other stakeholders to come together to discuss strategic approaches to current challenges, recent successes, and future outlooks.
