In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow:
Electric Vehicle Power Transfer System
Earth Day, a global celebration held on April 22, included various events to support and acknowledge every day efforts and changes we can make to protect the planet. Environmentally-aware drivers can rely on standards to support their choice to use an electric vehicle. SAE J 3068-2018, Electric Vehicle Power Transfer System Using a Three-Phase Capable Coupler, developed by ANSI member and accredited standards developer SAE International, allows vehicles to fully utilize three-phase AC power where it is available and preferred. The document guides the general physical, electrical, functional, testing, and performance requirements for conductive power transfer to an electric vehicle capable of transferring three-phase AC power, and covers the functional and dimensional requirements for the Electric Vehicle Inlet, Supply Equipment Connector, and mating housings and contacts.
SAE is a global association of engineers and related technical experts working in aerospace, automotive, and commercial vehicle industries. Their work includes voluntary consensus standards development and life-long learning, as well as charitable initiatives through the SAE Foundation.
Electromagnetic and Ultrasonic Cold Water Meters
A simple way to make your home a little more green friendly is to install low-flow showerheads or restrictors, allowing you to reduce the amount of water you use every time you shower. AWWA C715-2018, Standard for Cold Water Meters - Electromagnetic and Ultrasonic Type for Revenue Applications, is a standard that supports the use of low-flow showerheads developed by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer. It guides electromagnetic and ultrasonic potable cold water meters, and includes information on residential and commercial applications where low flow accuracy is of particular concern.
