People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that Jeff Patterson was promoted to chief operating officer. In this new position, Mr. Patterson will oversee the organization's conferences, engineering standards and certification, marketing and sales, and customer care and philanthropy programs. He will also lead its online and print media, new business development, training and professional development courses, technical publishing, and membership.
Previously, Mr. Patterson was ASME's associate executive director of marketing and sales, a position he assumed in January 2016. Prior to that, he was president of the insurance division of ALM Media, and chief executive officer at Mile 21 LLC and Safari Books Online.
"Jeff is a transformational leader, with an excellent combination of strategic and operational expertise," said Thomas G. Loughlin, executive director of ASME. "Jeff has a proven track record for implementing changes in a strategic direction. He will be a strong asset to the Society."
The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is seeking to fill the position of senior vice president, standards.
The SVP of standards leads the development of key initiatives for AAMI that improve safety for millions of patients nationwide. (S)he with work closely with industry leaders and senior regulators to set standards for the future of healthcare technology while managing a budget of $2.5 million and guiding the standards department in collaboration with other departments to meet company goals.
Candidates should have at least 10 years of management experience in an organization that develops standards or does program development with similarities to standards development or consensus building toward concrete program outcomes. Knowledge of national and international standards policies, systems, and procedures is also highly desired, as well as project management and financial management skills.
