ANSI Seeks Comments on Proposed Technical Committee on Project Management

4/16/2010
The Project Management Institute (PMI) and the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Project Committee (PC) 236, Project Management, have submitted a proposal to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for a new ISO Technical Committee (TC) on project management. ANSI invites all interested stakeholders to submit comments on the proposal by May 21, 2010.

ANSI currently serves as the secretariat of ISO/PC 236, which focuses on developing the single standard ISO 21500, Project Management. With this proposal, PMI and the U.S. TAG for PC 236 wish to expand the scope of ISO's work in this subject area with additional projects under a new TC. It is envisioned that when the current PC 236 completes its work on 21500, the PC will be disbanded but the ongoing responsibility and maintenance for 21500 would fall to the new TC.

The scope of the proposed TC includes standardization of project management, program management, and project portfolio management. According to the proposal, project management, program management, and portfolio management are management approaches that allow organizations within any market sector to connect their organizational strategy to successful project outcomes. Project management system standards have broad application within all market sectors and within both private and public organizations.

All comments should be sent to Steven P. Cornish, ANSI senior director for international policy ([email protected]). Feedback received by the May 21 deadline will be reviewed and compiled for the recommended ANSI position and comments, which will then be presented to the ANSI ISO Council (AIC) for formal approval.
