The proposed International Standard would set down requirements for a chain-of-custody forest management system allowing forestry-related businesses to manage their use of wood in an effective, economical, and sustainable manner. According to the proposal, the standard - which would be overseen by a new ISO Project Committee (PC) - would seek to establish methods to allow forestry companies and related businesses to demonstrate to consumers that their forestry products originated in a sustainable managed forest and were created in an ethical manner. The scope of the proposed standard covers social, economic, and environmental topics and concerns related to chain-of-custody and sustainable forestry issues.
All comments on this proposal should be sent to Steven Cornish, ANSI senior director for international policy ([email protected]). Feedback received by the July 12 deadline will be reviewed and compiled for the recommended ANSI position and comment, which will then be presented to the ANSI ISO Council for formal approval.
