IFAN Conducting Survey on Standards Distribution

New York, Nov 06, 2006

The International Federation of Standards Users (IFAN) is seeking input from standards users on the ways in which they obtain standards documents. Manufacturers, contractors, and consultants, as well as representatives from government agencies, trade associations and standards developing organizations are invited to complete a standards distribution questionnaire developed by the IFAN working group 3, standards distribution. The input gathered will enable the working group to develop IFAN positions relevant to this issue. Completed questionnaires are requested by November 25, 2006.

IFAN is an independent, non-profit international association of national standards organizations, companies, professional and trade associations, and government agencies concerned with the use of standards. While IFAN does not itself develop standards, the organization serves as a clearinghouse with respect to standards users’ interests and views on all aspects of standardization and conformity assessment.

IFAN fosters cooperation and dialogue among members for the purpose of communicating user interests to regional and international standardization bodies and policy committees, including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), and the Pan American Standards Commission (COPANT).

ANSI member and accredited standards developer, the Standards Engineering Society (SES), serves as the national member body for the United States and Canada in IFAN. IFAN national members are generally standards user organizations or committees from a given country that admit standards users to their membership without restrictions with respect to professions, industry sectors, or sub-divisions of territory. SES has a worldwide membership that includes standards developers, users, managers, and information specialists from industry, government, standards developing organizations, trade associations, and academia.

The standards distribution questionnaire is available for download in both Word and PDF formats at Interested parties are invited to complete and return the questionnaire by November 25, 2006, to the IFAN Secretariat at, or by fax: + 41 22 749 01 55.

The results of the survey will be made available to all interested parties. For further information, please visit
