Chinese Ministry Calls for Public Comment on List of Products Subject to China RoHS 2.0

7/24/2017

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT) issued an announcement on June 29 calling for public comments on the List of Products Subject to Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and List of Exceptions for Products Subject to RoHS. The deadline for comment is July 28, 2017. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages affected U.S. stakeholders to submit comments regarding the proposed lists and their potential impact on U.S. companies.

More information on how to submit feedback can be found in the official announcement (in Chinese) on the MIIT website.*

MIIT issued China RoHS 2.0, whose official title is the Administrative Measures for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products, on January 16, 2016, with an implementation date of July 1, 2016. It added significant new obligations on companies compared to China's original RoHS regulation, extending the scope of products covered as well as the labelling and information-disclosure requirements.

In an effort to help users better understand the requirements of the new law and to ensure effective implementation of the provisions, MIIT also released an official FAQ document called Management Methods for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products, or China RoHS 2.0.

The document explains the underlying motivation for the revision of China RoHS and underscores the process of the revision, the contents, and the next steps for the implementation of the Management Methods.

The FAQ document is available for download (in Chinese) on MIIT's website. Background details on China RoHS 2.0 are available on chinarohs.com.
