June D.C. Event “Standards in the House” to Highlight How Standards Protect the Nation

In conjunction with the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day 2015, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) will co-host a discussion about the critical role of standards and conformity assessment in the homes and lives of Americans on June 24 from 11:30 am to 1:30 EDT in Washington D.C.

The host organizations requests all interested stakeholders to RSVP by June 19 to cakers@ce.org.

The event will take place at the Rayburn House Office Building B-338 and will feature public- and private-sector leaders who will provide insights on the different ways standards foster the technological innovations citizens rely upon every day. Also discussed will be the ways in which the consensus process helps ensure public safety. Exhibits from prominent standards and code organizations will also be available at the event.

The lineup of speakers who will discuss their work related to the standards processes is set to include:

  • Henry Green, President and CEO, NIBS

  • Jeff Joseph, Senior Vice President, communications & strategic relationships, CEA

  • Dave Wilson, Vice President, technology & standards, CEA

  • Joe Bhatia, President & CEO, ANSI

  • Government/Congressional representative TBA

Networking opportunities and a brown bag lunch will also be available for attendees.

The U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day (WSD) is an annual event co-chaired by ANSI and NIST. The event serves to recognize the critical role of various stakeholders across the standards community, including business leaders, industry, academia, and government. The 2015 WSD theme is “Standards – The World’s Common Language,” and the official ceremony will be held at the Fairmont Washington in Washington, D.C., on October 1, 2015. This year, the CEA will serve as the event’s administrating organization.
