The ANS ANSI E1.23-2010 (R2015), Entertainment Technology - Design and Execution of Theatrical Fog Effects, offers guidance on planning and carrying out fog effects so that recognized exposure levels are not exceeded, fire and egress hazards are not created, false alarms don't summon the fire brigade, and fog effects are executed as they are designed, performance after performance.
The standard was developed by theEntertainment Services and Technology Association (ESTA), an ANSI-accredited standards developing organization (SDO).
ESTA is a non-profit trade association based in North America with members around the world. ESTA's members are responsible for creating some of the most important programs in industry including the Technical Standards Program, Entertainment Technician Certification Program and Rental Guard.

NFPA, an ANSI member and audited designator, is committed to producing and promoting consensus codes and standards, research, and training and education, and works to prevent fires as well as to lessen the impact of fires when they do occur, which includes developing procedures that will keep firefighters safe and healthy.
