ANSI Co-Sponsors Conference on Healthcare Information Technology

New York, May 17, 2006

With the goal of revolutionizing the way in which healthcare is managed and delivered, the U.S. government has made healthcare information technology (IT) a top priority. The second annual Government Health IT Conference and Exhibition—hosted by the E-Gov Institute—will give focus to the people, technologies, and public policy issues driving the creation of an interoperable, standards-based Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN). The conference will be held June 15-16, 2006, at the Ronald Regan Building in Washington DC. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a silver sponsor of the event.

The conference is tailored to address the most salient issues surrounding the adoption of healthcare IT, and will encompass two days of panel sessions and keynotes led by members of industry, government, and academia who are serving at the forefront of the healthcare IT initiative.

The conference will feature keynote presentations by Governor Donald Carcieri of Rhode Island, Governor Ernie Fletcher of Kentucky, and Dr. Michael Cowan, chief medical officer, BearingPoint, and former surgeon general of the Department of the Navy. LeRoy Jones, program manager of the Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), will lead a discussion on healthcare IT standards and policy.

Additional discussions will explore the key issues of protecting public privacy through identity management and access control; disease surveillance and pandemic planning; certification of health IT products; and state involvement within a shared nationwide healthcare system. The conference will also include presentations from the consortia charged with creating an architecture prototype for the NHIN [See related article, HHS Awards Network Architecture Contracts in Support of Nationwide Health Information Network].

An exhibition hall will provide attendees a look at the latest achievements in health IT solutions. An exhibitor at the event, ANSI will be on hand at booth 225 to provide materials and information relating to standardization efforts driving healthcare IT, including the activities of the HITSP.

The conference is open to all members of industry and government involved with shaping the policy, technology, business, and finance of the health IT landscape. Full registration includes admission to the conference sessions, keynotes, exhibition, reception, plus conference materials and continental breakfast/lunch daily. Registration for the Expo only includes admission to the exhibition, keynote and professional education program on June 15. Click here for further registration and fee information.
