New Versions of ISO/IEC Directives Now Available

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have issued a new edition of the ISO/IEC Directives, which govern the development process of ISO/IEC standards. The new versions have been prepared consolidating changes agreed by the ISO Technical Management Board (TMB) and the IEC Standardization Management Board (SMB) since the previous edition.

The ISO/IEC Directives are published in two parts:

  • Part 1: Procedures for the technical work
  • Part 2: Rules for the structure and drafting of International Standards

The above are complemented by a third document:

  • Supplement - Procedures specific to ISO

Electronic versions of the ISO/IEC Directives, together with associated templates and tools, can be accessed through the ISOTC Portal. Direct access to the Directives is also maintained via Printed editions of the directives will no longer be provided.

The joint ISO/IEC committee, ISO/IEC JTC 1, Information technology, has developed and maintains its own procedures:

  • ISO/IEC Directives, Procedures for the technical work of ISO/IEC JTC 1 on Information Technology

Electronic versions of the JTC 1 procedures, together with associated templates and tools, are maintained on the ITTF website (Information Technology Task Force).
