April Company Member Forum to Focus on Emerging Strategic Standardization Issues

Topics to include the future of standardization, cybersecurity, global supply chain, and smart and sustainable cities

The American National Standards Institute's (ANSI) 2015 Spring Company Member Forum Meeting (CMF) on April 7-8 is set to highlight critical standards topics led by experts in the fields of cybersecurity, global supply chain, and sustainability. The CMF event will be held at Corning Incorporated Headquarters in Corning, NY and will feature a special presentation segment on Cyber Security, with presentations by Scott Borg, director and chief economist of the U.S. ‪‎Cyber‎ Consequences Unit (US-CCU) and Evan Jensen of MIT's Lincoln Laboratory.

Attendees will also have a rare opportunity to tour the testing labs for Corning Gorilla Glass and attend an open-bar reception and dinner at the Corning Museum of Glass sponsored by ANSI.

All registrations should be received no later than April 1, 2015.

Key speakers and topics on the agenda are scheduled to include:

Tuesday, April 7:

  • Smart & Sustainable Cities: David Welsh, senior standards manager, corporate standards, for ANSI member Microsoft Corporation, will lead a presentation on Smart & Sustainable Cities. Mr. Welsh is a renowned expert and frequent international speaker on smart cities initiatives. The ANSI Network on Smart and Sustainable Cities (ANSSC) is a forum for information sharing and coordination on voluntary standards, conformity assessment, and related activities for smart and sustainable cities in the U.S. and abroad.

  • Global Supply Chain: ANSI's Scott Cooper, vice president of government relations, will discuss key issues related to the global supply chain.

  • Quality Management Standards: Alka Jarvis, distinguished quality engineer at Cisco, will lead a session on Quality Management Standards. Jarvis serves as the chair for the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to International Standards Organization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 176, Quality management and quality assurance. She is also the lead U.S. delegate to the committee responsible for the ISO 9000 family quality of management standards.

  • Standards Boost Business Campaign: George Gulla, vice president of publications and membership at ANSI, will lead a brief update on the 2015 goals and activities of the campaign.

Wednesday, April 8:

  • Cyber Security: Presentations by Scott Borg, Evan Jensen, and a special moderated discussion on cyber security.

  • The military side of government sees the future of standardization: Greg Saunders, director of the Defense Standardization Program Office (DSPO) at the U.S. Department of Defense, will lead a session and discuss related issues to companies and government contractors.

  • The Future of Standardization: James E. Matthews III, director of technical standards & standards policy at Corning Incorporated, will lead the segment.

The networking reception and ANSI-sponsored dinner will be at the Corning Museum of Glass on April 7.

The Company Member Forum (CMF) provides a venue for ANSI members representing the broad spectrum of U.S. industry to come together to discuss national, regional, and global standards and conformity assessment issues and collectively shape and influence U.S. policy in the domestic and international arena.
