SES Announces New Student Scholarship Program
SES - The Society for Standards Professionals, an ANSI member, has established a new scholarship program to increase awareness and use of standards. The scholarship is intended for full-time undergraduate or graduate students who use standards in their school curriculum.

To apply, students complete an application and write a letter to the SES Scholarship committee that addresses their qualifications in the areas of scholarship achievement; leadership qualities; concern for others/volunteerism; use of standards in academic curriculum and intention to pursue a career that will be impacted by standards; and career goals.

Applications are due by May 1, 2017. Learn more and access the application form on SES's website.

CTA Announces First Standards in Health and Fitness Technology
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, recently announced the release of its first two health and fitness standards.

ANSI/CTA/NSF-2052.1, Definitions and Characteristics for Wearable Sleep Monitors, defines terms for describing sleep states and indicates the functionality required in consumer products measuring sleep behavior. ANSI/CTA-2056, Physical Activity Monitoring for Fitness Wearables: Step Counting, describes a measurement procedure and performance criteria for consumer step-counting devices.

For additional information about these standards or for information about how to get involved in new health and fitness standards activities, contact Kerri Haresign ([email protected]).

Steel Door Institute Adds Door Selector Tool to Website
The Steel Door Institute (SDI), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is offering a free door selector tool on its website.

The tool is designed to assist architects in finding the best door design and performance level for their projects. Users of the tool choose the building type, opening, and suggested door grade. The tool will then display commonly specified door designs that fit the user's criteria.

Visit SDI's website to access the door selector tool.

SBCA Offers Online Building Codes Map
The Structural Building Components Association (SBCA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a new resource on state building codes.

When users visit the Building Codes Map, they can click on any state in the U.S. and be redirected to that state's online resource for building codes and standards. For example, clicking on New York directs the user to the NY Department of State, Division of Code Enforcement & Administration; clicking on California leads to the CA Building Standards Commission. The tool is free to use for all interested stakeholders.

Access the Building Codes Map on SBCA's website.
