The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Committee on Consumer Policy (COPOLCO) has submitted a proposal for a new international standard focusing on guidance for unit pricing. As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) invites all interested stakeholders to submit comments on the proposal by Friday, November 7, 2014. The proposed International Standard would provide retailers of all sizes with guidance regarding best practices for the establishment of a unit pricing scheme, including related labeling and promotion efforts, as well as assistance for organizations and government bodies seeking to improve existing unit pricing schemes. The standard would set down guidelines on the legibility and prominence of unit price labels, provide specifications for the expression of unit pricing in regards to quantity, and cover potential exemptions from unit pricing schemes.
All comments on this proposal should be sent to Steven Cornish, ANSI senior director for international policy ([email protected]). Feedback received by the November 7 deadline will be reviewed and compiled for the recommended ANSI position and comment, which will then be presented to the ANSI ISO Council for formal approval.
