NADCA Offers Tips to Avoid Air Duct Cleaning Scams
The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a list of steps that consumers can take to avoid air duct cleaning scams.

One tip is to be wary of work that doesn't take long to complete. When done properly, duct work cannot be performed quickly in most cases. Consumers should also be suspicious of contractors that list outrageous claims such as duct cleaning can cure disease or give you a completely dust-free home. It is also wise to ask for proof of insurance and research online reviews for companies before choosing them.

NADCA also advises to avoid the application of unnecessary chemicals. If it is necessary to use chemicals, the company should be able to provide all information about the chemical with the labeled container and the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). It is crucial that the chemical information state that it can be used in an HVAC system.

NCCCO Program Urges Crane Operators to Seek Training and Certification
The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), an ANSI member, has developed a new program that encourages crane operators to pursue training and certification in spite of a delay in OSHA's crane operator certification requirement.

It's Not Worth the Wait offers a five-point briefing document and a series of short videos that provide reasons why a responsible, safety-minded employer or operator should not wait to certify. In addition to the safety-related benefits of training and certification, other reasons include:

- If you wait too long, you may not have time to be certified before it's required.

-Insurance premiums may be higher if operators aren't certified.

- You may be missing out on work to employers who have certified operators.

Learn more and access the free briefing document and videos on the NCCCO website.
