People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has recently named Kevin M. Dempsey senior vice president for public policy and general counsel, effective July 1, 2009.

In this role, Mr. Dempsey will work to promote public policies that will help the North American steel industry compete in the global economy.

Formerly a partner in the Washington, DC office of Dewey & LeBoeuf, a global law firm, Mr. Dempsey brings extensive legislative, public policy and international trade law experience to AISI.

Prior to joining Dewey & LeBoeuf in 1995, he served as counsel to Senator John C. Danforth (R-MO) and the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. During his years on Capitol Hill and in the private sector, Mr. Dempsey has worked extensively on international trade negotiations, including the Doha Development Agenda.

A member of the District of Columbia bar, Mr. Dempsey received a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School and a BA in history from Washington University.

The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has appointed Ross Allbritton as marketing representative for the Northwest Area.

Working with AISC members and the AISC Steel Solutions Center, Mr. Allbritton will expand the association’s outreach to potential users of structural steel throughout Washington and Oregon by communicating the benefits of steel as a sustainable building material.

An experienced professional marketer, Mr. Allbritton joins AISC from Buyken Metal Products in Kent, WA, where he served as sales and marketing manager. A former member of the board of the Pacific Northwest Steel Fabricators Association, he was also director of business development for Jesse Engineering Company.

Mr. Allbritton studied speech communications and marketing at Portland State University.
